Buying fragrance decants in Morocco: how to choose a seller

Decants changed how Morocco buys fragrance. Instead of putting 1,500 DH on a bottle you smelled for thirty seconds on a shop strip, you take 10ml for a fraction of the price and wear it for a week before deciding.

The market filled up accordingly. Morocco now has several decant sellers — Riha, AG Fragrances, La Essenza, Parfum Split, Pizarro Fragrance, Twins Fragrance, MYF Fragrances, plus a long tail of Instagram accounts with no website. They don't all operate the same way.

This guide ranks nobody. It gives you the checks to run yourself, on any seller — including us.

What a decant actually is

A decant is fragrance transferred from an original bottle into a small 3, 5 or 10ml atomiser. It is not a counterfeit, not an "imitation", not a reconstructed oil. It's the original juice, in a smaller container.

Which makes the first distinction the important one:

The 7 questions to ask before ordering

1. Is the source bottle identifiable?

A seller decanting from real bottles can tell you which one: the size, the batch, often a photo. If they can't — or won't — you don't know what you're buying.

2. Is the 10ml price coherent with the full bottle?

The simplest test, and the most revealing. A 10ml decant generally lands between 8% and 15% of the full bottle price, depending on the original size and breakage.

A concrete example from our own catalogue: Terre d'Hermès EDT is 1,300 DH for the bottle and 130 DH for the 10ml decant — 10%. The ratio holds.

If someone offers you 10ml of a 3,000 DH niche fragrance for 60 DH, the arithmetic doesn't work. That isn't a bargain, it's a different product.

3. What's the container?

A glass atomiser with a decent pump isn't a cosmetic detail. Cheap plastic interacts with alcohol and the fragrance turns. Ask to see the empty vial they'll be shipping.

4. Is it cash on delivery?

In Morocco, cash on delivery is the norm on this market, for good reason: you advance nothing to a seller you don't know. A site demanding full prepayment with no visible track record is putting all the risk on you.

5. What happens if the parcel arrives damaged?

Ask before ordering, not after. A seller with a clear answer has handled it before. A seller who dodges either never has, or handled it badly.

6. Is there a real human to contact?

A WhatsApp number that answers, a phone line, an email address. On a cash-on-delivery market, reaching someone matters more than a polished site design.

7. Is the catalogue honest about stock-outs?

A site showing 400 references permanently "in stock" is not decanting 400 bottles. Visible stock-outs are a good sign — it means the inventory is real.

What this looks like in practice

A 10ml decant of each, worn for a week apiece, costs under 300 DH. If neither convinces you, you've saved the price of a bottle. If one does, you buy it knowing exactly what you're getting.

That's the whole point of the format — and it holds whoever you buy from.

Questions we get asked

Is a decant worse than a bottle? No, it's the same juice. The one real difference: a decant gets opened and handled more, so it meets air faster. Over 10ml used within a few weeks, you won't notice.

How long does a decant keep? Sealed, away from light and heat, expect several months with no noticeable degradation. Avoid the bathroom and the glovebox.
